Treat Smile to a Makeover

Smile makeovers are quickly becoming one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures today since they can correct several different dental problems at one time.

A smile makeover actually refers to any combination of cosmetic dental procedures that enhances the beauty and appearance of your smile. Smile makeovers can correct any one of the problems below:
  • Stained, discolored teeth can be whitened
  • Missing teeth can be replaced
  • Crooked teeth can be straightened
  • Gaps between teeth can be closed
  • Chipped, broken teeth can be repaired
  • Gummy smiles can be contoured

Smile makeovers are usually created with the use of porcelain crowns, porcelain veneers and porcelain inlays/onlays. These are cosmetic dental procedures that allow the dentist to dramatically change the length, width, color and shape of your teeth.

To learn more about what a smile makeover can do you for your mouth, please contact the Coleman Center for Cosmetic Dentistry today to schedule your initial appointment.

My Son Paul at UBSB

In November Jan and I had a chance to get up to Santa Barbara to see my son Paul play a fall-ball lacrosse game. They won, the team played great, and we had a chance to meet a friend of Paul's from Madrid, Hanna.

The weather was perfect, we all enjoyed getting to know Hanna (who unfortunately speaks less English than I do Spanish), but it all worked out.

The following weekend, Paul and Hanna joined us down in Poway for dinner. We were joined by Jan's oldest, Stephan, as well as his now fiancee Brianna.

My Son Joe at Dartmouth College

The week after the fires, I had the opportunity to fly back and spend the weekend with my son Joe at Dartmouth. I could not have picked a more perfect weekend. The trees were absolutely beautiful. The pictures themselves tell the story better than I can.

This is New England at it's finest.

Fire Storm 2007 Hits San Diego

Jan and I were most fortunate during the Fires of October 2007.

We were evacuated on Monday morning and went to stay with her folks in La Mesa. We watched in horror was neighborhoods we know, and I have lived in, went up in minutes.

We were out of our home for three days, not knowing if we had a homes to return to.

At one point, the fires were within hundreds of yards from our house. Additionally, the fire was heading towards the dental office. I could not even fathom how to proceed with neither home nor practice.

All told, there were thousands of home lost, over 500,000 people evacuated, and even now, five months later, many lots sit vacate.

We had over a dozen friends who were not as fortunate, many fleeing their home with the clothes on their back.

This was my son's best friends home. Disasters like this put things in perspective. We are very lucky.

Summer of 2007 Comes to an End

Well the kids were all around for one last hurrah before heading off the school. So I cooked up some shrimp on the Barbie and we had a great send-off dinner.

I'd like this chance to introduce you to the kids. From left to right:
Joe, my youngest who is a freshman Pre-Med major at Dartmouth. He plans on being an orthopedic surgeon.
Jan, my wife, with her best Richard Nixon impersonation.
Emily is Shelby's best friend. She is a freshman Pre-Law student at Stanford.
Shelby is Jan's youngest. She is also Pre-Med at UC Long Beach, planning on becoming an anesthesiologist.
Paul is seated, he is my oldest, a senior at UCSB with a dual physics/philosophy major.
Jan and I are blessed to have such great kids. They are all very easy to be proud of.

Chicago Marketing Symposium

My wife Jan handles all the marketing efforts for the office, and much of what we do in television marketing, which is unusual for dental offices. As a result, we were asked by the Las Vegas Institute (LVI) to present a 90 minute program on Television Marketing at a two day Marketing Symposium held in Chicago in July 2007. Some of the brightest and most innovative dental marketeers presented an ever aspect of marketing: radio, print, direct mail, Internet, bill boards and more.

But first we had to get to Chicago.

Soon after we returned from Boston, Jan and I made the trek to Chicago by train. Yes, by train.

If you have never traveled on a train for two days, it is an experience.

I learned a great number of things personally. The sleeper cabin looks much bigger on the virtual tour on line. Also, it is the lowest level of first-class accommodation in existence.

Also, when you are on a train, on both sides of the train, is the "wrong side of the tracks". It did amaze me how many large kitchen appliances and rusting cars God has elected to drop into people's back yards.

That being said, we did have a blast and saw some beautiful parts of the country.

We absolutely fell in love with Chicago. We caught some terrific weather, ate in some terrific restaurants, and did the bus and river architectural tours. Had an absolute blast.

We also had the opportunity to meet up with some old friends from LVI. The IACA (International Academy of Comprehensive Aesthetics) were having their annual conference immediately after the Marketing Symposium. So it was a great opportunity to do a little catching up.

Here Jan and I are enjoying the river tour with Drs. Stephen Burch and Curtis Westersund.

The presentation was well received, our power point presentation worked perfectly and we received so many good ideas. Jan and I will be revisiting Chicago the next chance we get.
