Our philosophy at the Coleman Center for Cosmetic Dentistry includes three basic ideas:
We will always take time to answer any questions you may have, explain the features and benefits of dental procedures and devices, and teach your family how to best care for their teeth. In this world of constant media assaults and advertising, it is sometimes hard to know what and who to believe. A good example of that in dentistry is whitening toothpastes.
Tooth whitening has caught on nationwide and makers of tooth products have jumped in, offering whitening strips, tooth-whitening kits (with one-size-fits-all trays guaranteed not to fit your teeth), whitening toothpaste etc. Almost all toothpastes sold today proclaim "whitening" on their packaging as a great asset and reason your should buy them.
They contain abrasive ingredients. Is that a good idea? The way those toothpastes try to "whiten" your teeth will actually "yellow" them over time. The abrasive ingredients such as baking soda quietly remove your tooth enamel as well as any stains on it. This reveals some of the color of the next tooth layer down, the yellow dentin. It will show through the thinning enamel. Thinner enamel will also make your teeth more prone to decay — less enamel for the acid bacterial excretions to eat through.
Get Reliable Information for your family
