What can non-surgical gum treatment do for me?
Lasers have forever changed the care we can provide a patient. In the office of Dr. Paul Coleman, lasers are utilized to recontour gum tissue for a more pleasing appearance, to treat periodontal disease and even to detect decay in teeth much earlier than dentists have been able to in the past.
Dr. Coleman offers gum recontouring and periotherapy using the diode laser.
What is gum recontouring?
It’s reshaping of the gum tissue using a laser. The reshaping is done by vaporizing tiny pieces of gum tissue from the right places, so that more of the teeth show through. This corrects for “short” teeth, and for unevenly sized teeth.
What is periotherapy?
Periotherapy is treatment of gum disease. Never before have so many treatment options been available to treat periodontal (gum) disease. The use of lasers and antimicrobials, and individualized patient education place our patients in the best position to keep their teeth for life.
Will gum recontouring damage my teeth?
No. The diode laser uses a frequency which targets your gums and not your teeth or underlying structures. If the teeth were to be recontoured, a different type of laser would be used.
What are the advantages of non-surgical gum recontouring?
The laser is much more accurate and precise than a scalpel. You gum tissue is sealed immediately, eliminating excess bleeding and reducing the risk of infection. Your gums will heal much faster with little or no pain and swelling.
What kind of recovery can I expect from non-surgical gum recontouring?
Some patients experience mild pain and swelling for a few days after treatment.
